Who We Are
We’re a keen group of skiers 18 and older who just want to get out in the winter and enjoy it and don’t let the fact we live in the flat-lands get in the way. We prefer the term vertically challenged to describe our environment but we’re living proof you don’t need a mountain to enjoy winter. Sure it helps but we’ve discovered that any time on snow can be fun and if spent with a purpose leads to a much better time when you do have the chance to venture further afield. And it’s always better with friends. Whether you join because of the fitness, the chance to meet with others who share the same love of skiing as you, just want to improve your skiing or experience the excitement and challenge of alpine racing we’re the club for you.
What We Do
Manitoba Masters Ski Club offers skiers of all ages the opportunity to continue to improve their technique and find new ways to conquer the mountain. Masters is built around the belief that education and trying new things will enhance your on snow experience no matter where you go. Some of our most competitive members choose to regularly train gates and race in competitions hosted by the Manitoba Alpine Ski Division race series, the Manitoba Cup and Master’s National competitions. Much time is also spent working outside of the gates on fundamental improvements through free-skiing and targeted drills. With our own coaches setting a program for progression; every member finds their skiing improving each and every week.
How We Do It
Our club offers a range of membership categories and learning opportunities to match the goals and needs of all its members. There’s evenings scheduled midweek, one and two day trips on weekends and even week long trips to the mountains. All members are automatically entered in our own fun race series by age and ability categories so that you get a taste of a timed challenge on a regular basis. You’ll be guided by trained instructors and coaches from the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance and the Canadian Ski Coaches Federation.
Can Anyone Join?
The range of abilities in the club is huge! If you have basic parallel skills or even break into a wedge occasionally there’s a group for you. If you’re an ex-racer, whether from the modern era or from BSS (Before Shaped Skis) times, and want to reconnect with the thrills that competition and training gave you you’ll find that here. The only restriction is that you must be 18 and up. We even offer an instructional program for the public where you aren’t required to join (our PEP project) the club but can take 3 days of targeted training with our coaches at Holiday Mountain on three separate weekends to improve your skiing or get a taste of what we’re offer. So get up off the couch this winter and come outside to play and you can learn to ski like a Master too.
